Bassflute, metal, in C

metalbass

A bassflute with a more sophisticated apearance, with a somewhat more penetrating sound than it’s PVC alternative (see below).
A perfect flute for those who want both aspects of ensembleplaying and soloplaying. With it´s wide bore it is a louder instrument than average. It could easily replace 2 (more expensive) instruments.

Bandplayers, who will mostly be playing sitting down, will probably prefer a bend with wider angle. This allows a very convenient position, the weight rests on the knee, or a saxophone cord.

PVC bass

This bassflute was specially designed for ensemble purposes. This means that low notes have to be easy and loud. A lot of bassflutes play well as solo instruments but are of no use in bands. To achieve a good low register the diameter has to be wider than  other bassflutes. Therefore it produces considerably more decibels. Flutechoirs will have a cheap bass section using this type of instrument. To be frank the third octave of the flute has to be sacrificed a bit. All the notes are there but the top notes are a bit less  subtle.

To allow toneholes to be cut out of  the thin wall of the PVC the tube has a special form. Unlike the round tubes of normal flutes this flute has a U-shaped tube. It has an acoustical reason also: Toneholes need not be glued on or drawn out of the tube making a considerable deep cavity inside it. It disturbs the cylindrical shape of the tube less. Moreover the hole, now no more than 3mm high, has less resistance.

Silverplating (as shown in picture) for better looks and trillkeys are optional.

The flute has a brace to rest on the knee in sitting position. If wanted it can be played in standing position using a saxophone cord.

Because of it’s special qualities, the warm sound and easy low register, soloplayers appear to like the instrument also.
