Altoflute in G

Compass:                       c’ …. C”” (g …. G”’)
Headpiece and body:      silverplated

The altoflute was specially designed for ensemble purposes. Therefore it has to produce more decibels when playing low notes. For this the diameter of the flute is unusually wide: 28 mm.
The flute performs as a solo instrument also although regular altos will be slightly more subtle in the top region.
Bottom notes however are very warm, easy and loud. Using this type of instrument does mean a difference in flutechoirs.

Like the bassflute the altoflute also has this peculiar tubeshape. The tube is formed as a U. It has a practical reason, but also an acoustical: Toneholes have such a low side that it effects the resistance of them positively. Beside that the inner side of the tube can remain more regular, no cavities disturbing the cylinder.
One disadvantage is that the lower end of the flute cannot be adjusted to accommodate the right little finger. The body is in one piece.

The example shown here is an altoflute with parts of the tube non silverplated. This is to achieve a nice contrast. Of course the flute can be fully silverplated if wanted.
